Rio de Janeiro - What is it about May?
Even in this southern hemisphere country, with winter fast approaching, people in a remote town spent Thursday thinking about love, sex and.... well, orgasms.
The town of 35 000, Esperantina, in northern Piaui Province, celebrated the Day of the Orgasm with flowers, signs, and seminars with experts, including prostitutes. Orgasm is a gift of God, said one sign.
The affair was financed for the second year in a row with private moneys organised by Arimatea Dantas, a socialist and member of the town council. His goal is to wipe out prejudices about sex "so that people have a better life".

"Most women among us have never reached the apex during intercourse, they don't even know the word 'orgasm'," Dantas was quoted as saying by local media.
The mayor, Jose Franco, opposed the celebration. "I can't support something like this," he said. "I don't have these prejudices and our city is very poor and has other priorities".
An "orgasm urn" was placed on the main square of town - for collecting anonymous opinions and suggestions and questions.
"Most people here are ashamed of their sexual feelings," Dantas said. He said there was a much more lively interest in the event this year than last. - Sapa-DPA
