A prominent adult film website has just expanded its audience to include the blind. No longer will the visually impaired go without erotic thrills. Now they have the option of listening to an audio of someone describing the sex scenes of popular videos. This includes straight, female-friendly, gay, bi, and transsexual videos. Narrated by professional voice actors as well as Aria, the social media personality for the site, these sexy audios are sure to allow the blind to envision their naughtiest fantasies. The website. A popular adult film website wants to broaden its horizons. It’s one of the main ones, and it rhymes with “cornhub.”
The videos. The videos for the blind and partially sighted people include narrative descriptions of the environment, what the models look like, and the positions they are getting into. The narration plays alongside the original audio.
What’s it like? The company released a SFW video to give viewers a peek into their new project. In the video, the female narrator says things like “Cut to a side shot inside the cab and a girl gets in – black hair, lots of makeup, and squeezing a nice, curvy figure into a tight blue dress,” in a sultry voice. Spicy!
Gaining traction. According to the Mirror, the clips launched by the company’s philanthropic sector have attracted a lot of views. 20,000 in just a few months! The blind are gettin’ busy.
Top-viewed. The company started the project with 50 videos. They picked the most top-rated videos from the most popular categories. This spanned gay, straight, female-friendly, bi and trans videos.
Accessibility. The company’s vice-president Corey Price told the Guardian, “It’s our goal to service all of our users’ needs, which begins with making content accessible to every individual. We wanted to describe all that we could to provide the user with the best possible experience while not taking away from the video’s original audio.”
The blind need it too. Differently abled people are slowly gaining more access to contemporary culture. Joel Snyder, the company’s director of the audio description project, told the Guardian, “People who are blind have every right to access porn as they do classical Shakespeare or any other kind of video.”
Volunteering. Last year another adult website launched a similar campaign, only this time it was solely for the blind. It garnered 150,000 visitors a month with its descriptions of adult videos. The videos were voiced by volunteers.
Economic sense. The company isn’t just providing creating audio description videos to do the right thing. They are also looking to make a profit. Joel Snyder said, “There are more than 21 million people in this country who are either blind or have trouble seeing even with eye correction. The community is large and has buying power, so this smacks of something that just economically makes good sense.”
Book. An erotic book was published in Braille in 2010. According to France24, “Tactical Mind” is a combination of tactile images of naked bodies and text written in Braille. Canadian artist Lisa Murphy said she wanted the visually impaired to have access to our hypersexualized culture.
Playboy. Playboy also reached out to the blind. They have been publishing a Braille edition since 1970. Funded by Congress!
Blind fetish? There are also videos on the website that fetishize blind people. That's a scenario people are into. Maybe they should transcribe those?
What did blind people do before this? Society really has come a long way with disability rights. Before these adult videos and books, blind people had to resort to their imaginations to get off. How boring!
