Is everyone having anal sex without you? Apparently. New research has revealed that one in four straight women are having backdoor action a few times a month, according to Metro UK. In other words, anal sex is happening everywhere. Read on below for more.

Research. Conducted by Bespoke Surgical, new research indicates that one in four straight women are having anal sex on the reg, according to Metro UK. This means ladies are taking it up the poop chute a few times a month— at the very least.

Percentage. To put the survey’s findings in perspective, that means 25 percent of straight women are enjoying backdoor lovin’ a few times a month. While this isn’t a majority, it is probably more than you might have expected.

Reassuring. Overall, the survey’s findings should be reassuring to other women who are regularly having anal sex. Because let’s face it: anal is still a bit of a taboo, unfortunately.

Other stats. That said, some of the survey’s other findings aren’t as reassuring. Take, for Instance, the fact that many women aren’t using protection when it comes to butt play. Uh-oh.

Protection… … Or lack thereof. The study found that out of the 300 women surveyed, a whopping 57 percent of those who had anal never used a condom during it. We repeat: never.

Long-term partners. Of course, it is possible that this is because women often tend to partake in butt stuff with long-term partners. Nonetheless, it’s important to keep in mind that STIs can — and do — get passed through anal sex.

Using protection. Seemingly, it’s important to always wear a condom if you aren’t entirely sure that you and/or your partner are STI-free. Not to mention, it’s important that you never, ever use an oil-based lubricant.

Oil-based lubricants. The thing about oil-based lubricants is that they can break down condoms, thereby putting you and your partner in danger. So, stick to water or silicone-based lubes instead.

Other stats. Moreover, the study found that one in five women — 20 percent — surveyed who’d engaged in backdoor play said they experienced damage from the deed. Specifically, the participants revealed they experienced tearing. Ouch, indeed.

Safety. That number is an important reminder for women to partake in anal not just safely, but comfortably. This means using lots and lots and lots of lube.

Safety. Beyond lube, however, there are also other ways women can partake in butt play safely and comfortably. For instance, partners should always go slowly (at least during the beginning). And, the act should completely stop if there is *any* pain.

Cleanliness. Last but not least, the survey’s findings revealed that women tend to worry a lot about cleanliness when it comes to anal. (But not STIs, what gives?) Yes, we’re talking about poop.

Cleanliness. The survey found that women tend to worry about having their poop get on their partner’s penis— or any part of their body, for that matter. And yeah, we get it: no one wants to sh*t on their partner’s d*ck.

Shower. Seemingly, if you do decide to partake in anal sex and don’t feel “clean enough” back there, maybe you should hold it off for another time. Because, well, just think: how much fun are you really going to have during the act if you’re just freaking out about sh*t? Literally.

Bottom line. The takeaway? If you want to have anal sex, make sure you use protection and have showered beforehand. That way, you’re not only being safe, you’re also ensuring that you have a grand ol’ time. (And maybe even an orgasm, if you’re lucky.)
