Faith Lorna is an alternative model and tattoo lover from Canada. When she isn’t modelling or collecting new tattoos, Faith is being loud and proud about breaking the silly modelling standards of the industry. She says “it’s ridiculous to still think that only six foot blondes can be models”. Hell yeah! Find out more about Faith Lorna below.[caption id="attachment_99159" align="aligncenter" width="700"]
Photography by Crystallized Memories[/caption]Tell us about your career as model. How did you get started? I got started in modeling from my love of makeup and dressing up. At first it was just myself and friends messing around with cameras for my blog and MySpace because we were bored. That led to me reaching out to amateur photographers because I wanted to take modeling more seriously after the response I got. What was your first shoot as a model like?My first shoot was really laid back, low pressure just the photographer and myself outside. I styled and did the make up in that one like I do most all of my shoots. It was a good experience because of how low key it was.Do you love any one genre of modelling more than another? Not necessarily as long as there is a strong creative element behind the theme I’m up for it. Erotic modeling isn’t my cup of tea, nudity for the sake of nudity is boring to me so I guess that would be my least favorite genre.Tell us a bit about your style?I don’t know if I have a style it’s more of an anti-fashion mash up depending on my mood, and the time of year. My personal style is always changing but I always find myself incorporating preppy and punk elements into my look without realizing it. So if I had to categorize it I’d go with preppy meets punk meets granny with some Japanese street style thrown in for good measure. Let’s talk tattoos for a moment! What first drew you to tattoos? My family first drew me to tattoos growing up I was always around adults who had tattoos so it never occurred to me that they were socially taboo. All I thought was how cool it was that pictures could be drawn on skin. Are you planning any more body modifications for the future?I am planning on getting 8 more tattoos.[caption id="attachment_99158" align="aligncenter" width="700"]
Photography by Maj Photography[/caption]What is the modelling community like in Canada? The modeling community in Canada is great, tight knit and extremely supportive. I’ve been lucky enough to be affiliated with The Alternative Modeling Directory (TAMD) since early on and it’s like having the modeling 101 guide at your fingertips if such a book existed. I’ve learned a lot and have had so much support from the group its nuts.Do you have any words of wisdom to give to other petite models like yourself?Keep at it, work might not always come to you or from where you’d expect it to. Start local and build up from there. If you like a photographer’s work let them know and see if their open to working with you they might not be but there is never any harm in trying. Reaching out to art programs at University’s and Collages is another good way to gain experience and network. Never turn down an opportunity because you think you’re too good for it, you never know who you might meet at a shoot. As well as loving alternative fashion and modelling, you love alternative music! Who are some of your favorite bands?Your right, I love alternative music and I have too many favorites to list them all so I’ll give you my top 5 artist on shuffle on my iPod currently All Time Low, Matt Skiba, The Dresden Dolls, Brand New, The Story So Far.Where do you hope to be in five years?I hope to still be modeling but doing paid work and traveling with it. I also hope to have worked with some of the brands and photographers I’ve been dreaming of working with by then. How much have you changed since you first started modelling?I have changed a lot since I first started modelling. I know for sure the nudity and fetish market is not my thing. I’m way more comfortable covered or implied nude! I’m not against it by any means, if it makes you happy all the power to you.Do you have any tips for new models that find you inspiring? As cliché as it sounds don’t let the haters get you down. I was told I’d never model just because I’m not the minimum industry standard 5’10” and look at me now. We live in a time where society’s standard of beauty is slowly expanding and the alternative modeling world has never been stronger. There are so many different styles of modeling that it’s ridiculous to still think that only six foot blondes can be models. If modeling is your passion keep with it. If doors aren’t opening for you at the rate you want go, kick them in. Find more of Faith Lorna on Facebook, Twitter (@itsfaithlorna) and on her blog.
